Pain Relief For Cats: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

How Can You tell When a Cat is in Pain?

When it comes to pain relief for your pets, if you are a cat owner you will know just how cute and cuddly cats can be.

They can appear out of sorts

Sometimes they can appear rather out of sorts, not quite themselves, with a little less energy than usual or not wanting to play. In this case it could very well be that your pet cat is experiencing some kind of pain.

Cats can appear to be aggressive

Cats can be aggressive at these times, especially if you try to touch them and this kind of behaviour is a good indication that something is wrong and that some kind of treatment is needed.

The changes can be subtle

But sometimes the changes can be quite subtle and your cat may go very quiet instead. So it can be quite difficult to spot at times. It is a good idea to be aware of how your cat is feeling on a regular basis so that you can notice the more subtle signs.

Cats are pretty good at hiding their pain

Cats CAN be quite good at not showing their pain but you might notice that he or she isn’t running as fast or jumping as much or as high as usual. Older cats may also be more prone to health problems and ailments such as arthritis, especially if they have been involved in an accident in the past at some point. It can also come about through general wear and tear.

How do you check for cat arthritis?

Arthritis is a very painful, inflammatory condition of the joints. Using the same kind of foods, especially dried foods without adequate access to water over a long period of time can also sometimes lead cats to suffer liver or kidney damage. This would require specialist diagnosis so if you think that your cat might be in pain or has cat arthritis, maybe because it is showing signs of walking with difficulty, it would be a good idea to take it to a vet as soon as possible.

The best treatment is prevention and a healthy diet

Of course the best treatment is prevention so getting advice about cat health and providing your cat with a good healthy diet from the beginning can help avoid many of the common problems and diseases that cats can develop over time without this.

You might also consider using a natural diet, supplemented with herbal products or homeopathic remedies which would be much kinder to the stomach and, as a safer method of pain relief, would help to avoid the kind of complications that can occasionally arise with more regular drug medication.

When you take the steps to identify and deal with any pain that your cat might be suffering you can rest assured that your cat will be much happier, able to enjoy life once again just as a healthy, happy cat is meant to do.
